Affordability is an important factor when selecting an education abroad program. The programs offered through Education Abroad vary in cost, depending on the features of the program, geographic location, length, inclusions in the program such as excursions and cultural activities, and the level of on-site support. Students are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their Education Abroad program offers coursework that is relevant for their academic needs. The role of the student in their own education abroad experience is vitally important. Students are encouraged to work closely and frequently with their academic adviser and Education Abroad adviser throughout the entire process. Once abroad, it is the student's responsibility to complete the course equivalency process in order to obtain Penn State equivalent course numbers for all courses taken abroad. The student is also responsible for working with his or her academic adviser on course substitution to ensure that all courses and grades earned abroad are assigned to an area within the student's degree audit.
