EMS Library to host Halloween-themed One Button Studio open house on Oct. 31
The Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences Library (EMSL) will open a new One Button Studio (OBS) on Nov. 1. To celebrate the opening, the EMSL will host a Halloween-themed open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in 105 Deike Building.
Undergraduate Research: Finding fossils in central Pennsylvania

EMS undergraduate uncovers over 300 fossils at local site during summer research
While exploring for fossils with her father in the State College area in 2014, Penn State geobiology major Anna Whitaker discovered a fossil of a prehistoric starfish. The Whitakers brought the excavated fossil to the University to be analyzed. Mark Patzkowsky, professor of geosciences, identified the starfish as an ophiuroid, labelling it the first of its kind to be discovered in Centre County.
